John Shipley presents “Virginia City’s Jazz Era, a Presentation and Performance,” on Thur., Aug. 16, 2018, at 7:00 p.m. in the Nevada State Museum, Carson City. This lecture will also include a performance by a combo lead by Shipley.
The event is free, but seating is limited to 90 individuals. Reservations must be made in advance with the Nevada State Museum.

During the 70s and 80s jazz was alive in Virginia City, NV at the Silver Stope. Owner and renowned jazz pianist Merle Koch performed and encouraged his fellow jazz musicians to perform.
Along with Scot Marshall (bass), Rocky Tatarelli (sax), and Mark Ashworth drums), John Shipley, an innovative jazz pianist, conductor, arranger, songwriter, producer, and recording artist, will discuss Merle Koch’s impact on jazz and perform to illustrate the musical styles.
